On the Nature of Love

on November 7th 1468 nine men gathered to honour Plato's birthday at Careggi near Florence. After their meal the Symposium was read and the guests - now reduced to seven - spoke on the nature of love. Ficino recorded what was said and his report constitutes the text of his commentary. This topic of idealised love inspired much of Europe for centuries.
